Dear Subscriber First Name, Given my unexpected delay in getting this museletter out, it feels a bit late and trite to wish you a “Happy New Year” as I thought I might. I often struggle with wishing others or myself happiness anyway and find myself preferring a host of other more considered and consequential wishes: May 2024 be meaningful for you. May this new year find you aware of more blessings in your life, especially when you are feeling burdened. May you be able to lean into love, no matter what happens. May the depths of joy engulf you on many an occasion. May the election in the US move us toward greater peace, hope, kindness, and justice in our world. Please. May you have cause to dance. May you remember your life - all life - as a precious and unpromised gift. Acknowledging the turn of the calendar into a new year brings with it a recognition of how much transitions have to teach us - those in the past, present moment, and those inevitably on their way. The ways we are called to embrace the constancy of change is one of the key things we can expect in our lives, but how doggedly we are prone to resist it. How many things that are true in your life right now - challenging, liberating, beautiful and everything in between - could you have predicted a year ago? How many times has the weather forecast been wrong? How many fortune cookies have missed the mark? Plans gone awry? For better and for worse, we are called to stay open to surprise and continually be present for the mysterious unfolding of life as it actually is. The opening paragraphs above reference two grateful living principles that offer us trustworthy support, perspective, and direction as we navigate life and its mysteries: Life is a gift. Everything is surprise. I am moved in this month’s museletter to also share some resources to uplift the third principle - The ordinary is extraordinary, when we take nothing for granted - as I find that remembering this truth is one of the most reliable ways that I can re-see and reframe life when I am wrestling with it most. I hope that the article, video, and quotes I have included here support you in similar fashion and help you to feel the warmth of gratefulness in your heart. In next month’s museletter, I will be sharing news about a six-week online course sponsored by the Eileen Fisher Leadership Institute that I am really looking forward to offering in the spring, a new podcast, and more. I also plan to post a brief update from my writing retreat where I am excited about some new ideas a’brewing. Until then, may peace grow in your heart and in our world. With love -
