Dear Subscriber First Name, There are times in life when words are harder to come by. This is one of those times for me. Perhaps it is one of those times for you as well. It feels vital right now to pay homage to the whole tapestry of emotions seeking our attention, and to make space for both truth-sensing and truth-attending as much as truth-telling. It is important to slow down enough to notice and discern. To listen. This does not happen for me without closing the door on the demands of outer noise so I can tune into “a silence into which another voice may speak,” as Mary Oliver says so beautifully in her poem, Praying. In the gift of stillness, I often find myself overcome with a sense of poignancy that allows all things to be noticed at once. Poignancy which holds the preciousness of life as also unpromised; the strength of life as also fragile. Beauty and heartache. Wonder and uncertainty. Poignancy knows the truth that love and grief walk hand-in-hand and that gratefulness is vast enough to hold it all.
