Last week, I got to be a guest lecturer in Scott Barry Kaufman’s course on the Science of Living Well at Columbia University. I delighted in having the chance to guide an auditorium of Undergraduate students in meditation, reflective questions, practices, and principles to awaken them to their own experience of gratefulness. The tender, yearning hearts of the students who lined up afterwards to get a hug, ask a question, or share a story about their lives left an imprint that is with me still. The experience deepened my trust in the aliveness that is beating just beyond and beneath what we often identify as detachment in many young people “these days,” and also my commitment to nurturing this aliveness in all the ways I can.
